Hello! I came across this repository looking for something ddev related, and was pleasantly surprised to see our playwright integration mentioned here. A few months ago I transferred the project over to the Lullabot org so my colleagues could work on it easily, so you may want to update your docs and ddev get commands.

Did you see https://github.com/lullabot/playwright-drupal? We're using it on a few projects now and I'm happy in that it works, it's stable, it's fast (because of parallel test support), but also is more complex than I wish for new projects to set up. I wonder if fresh eyes may have fresh ideas!

Thanks for the great groundwork on lullabot/ddev-playwright!
lullabot/playwright-drupal also looks great - but I've only just started looking deeper into it as I initially misapprehended parts of that repo. We haven't needed/planned the drupal-(simple)test integration (i.e. prefixes, files, etc.) ATM but it's interesting to see your approach there. Moreover, we have to cater for a variety of CI/CD-settings (e.g. some with/some without ddev) so that informs our approach.
Have you ever explored any more tooling on the drupal-side directly (e.g. drupal module-approaches like the long-abandoned https://github.com/AmazeeLabs/cypress or https://www.drupal.org/project/automated_testing_kit)?

I only gave a short look at https://github.com/AmazeeLabs/cypress because it didn't appear to be maintained for several years. But looking at it now, I see https://github.com/AmazeeLabs/cypress/blob/8.x-1.x/src/TestSite/TestSiteInstallCommand.php#L84-L90 so it's clear it has a similar architecture. I was hesitant to make "install a module" a required step for tests, since there's so much more opportunity for them to somehow change how tests run. But perhaps that should be re-evaluated given how much setup is required to get a new site going...

https://www.drupal.org/project/automated_testing_kit is doing good work too! I've had some good conversations with André about it. Last I checked it didn't support parallel tests that write to the database, and operates more like behat tests where it runs against an imported database instead of a fresh site install.
