Implement the Memories page

What happened?

The current state of the application indicates that the Memories feature is Coming Soon. We need to work on this feature. It should be completed end-to-end, i.e, from frontend to backend.

Description:

Add a Memories feature that automatically resurfaces items from the gallery based only on time and location. The system should group photos or media captured around the same date range and at the same or nearby locations, and present them as short, story-style highlights such as “On this day last year” or “Trip to Jaipur, 2023”.

Memories should be generated automatically without manual album creation and should focus on showing a small set of representative highlights rather than all media from that period. These memories appear as interactive cards on the memories page and refresh regularly based on the current date.

The goal is to make it easy for users to revisit past moments through simple time and location-based recall.

Hi @rahulharpal1603 Sir,

I would like to take ownership of this issue and implement the Memories feature end-to-end (frontend + backend).
I have already started working on it.

I have gone through the current codebase and the issue requirements carefully. I am already familiar with the codebase, as I have contributed to this project earlier, which allows me to understand the existing architecture, data flow, and conventions well.

Below is my proposed implementation plan:

🔹 Backend (FastAPI / Python)

• Automatically generate memories using time and location metadata only
• Support memories such as:
  • “On this day last year”
  • “Trip to , ”
• Cluster media using:
  • Date ranges (same day / nearby days)
  • Nearby geo-locations (distance-based clustering with reverse geocoding)
• Expose a clean /api/memories endpoint returning lightweight memory summaries
• Add unit tests for time-based and location-based grouping logic

🔹 Frontend (Tauri + React + TypeScript)

• Replace the current “Coming Soon” state with a fully functional Memories page
• Display memories as interactive cards with:
  • Title, date range, and location label
  • Representative media previews (story-style)
• Implement a memory viewer using existing gallery components
• Handle loading states, empty states, and performance optimizations

🔹 Quality & Documentation

• Follow existing project conventions and formatting
• Add/update documentation for the Memories feature
• Ensure all tests pass before submission

Since I am already familiar with the codebase and have previously contributed to the project, I believe I can implement this feature efficiently and with minimal back-and-forth.

If this plan aligns with the project direction, I have already started working on the implementation and would appreciate it if you could assign this issue to me.
