I am actually going to extend this issue in order to be more flexible for future use.
We should have a possibility to provide any additional flag for the command line (e.g. for w4gldev rundbapp).
Also provide a way to specify if the test case should be run as an image (rather than from db).
Therefore my solution looks like this:
If there is a config file appname.cfg (in the same directory), then the following options will be checked for and used (lines in the format of OPTION=value) :
RUNNER
RUNFLAGS
MAKEIMAGEFLAGS

The option RUNNER can have a value of runimage in order to specify that the application should be run as an image (thus "w4gldev makeimage" and "w4gldev runimage" will be used).
Any other value will be used as the name of a script to be executed (passing the application name as parameter).
If it is not there (or empty) the default behavior (using "w4gldev rundbapp") is applied.
Option RUNFLAGS specifies the additional flags for the rundbapp/runimage execution.
Option MAKEIMAGEFLAGS specifies the additional flags for the makeimage command (if RUNNER=runimage).
