[Feature Request] Local build registry

One thing that's a shame with WUD is that you're not able to track locally built images.
E.g. I have lots of images that I built locally and would first of all at least like to see them in the list to know if they have an update available, but currently in WUD this fails, because they don't have a registry associated.
But having access to the docker socket/api one could easily query if there are other versions of the image available and apply the same logic as with images associated with a "normal" registry.

Hey again! This is a good one — it's a gap in WUD that we'd like to close too.

The way we'd approach it is a local registry provider that checks the Docker daemon directly. If you've rebuilt myapp:latest or loaded a new image via docker load, drydock would detect that the running container's image digest no longer matches the locally tagged image and flag it as "update available." No remote registry needed — it's purely local.

This is actually one of the few things that would work fully offline too, since it's just comparing what's running against what's on the host.

We're adding it to the roadmap. No ETA yet but it's a feature we want. Thanks for suggesting it!

Thanks for the feature request! This is tracked in our roadmap under v1.7.0 (Smart Updates & UX):

• Phase 6.4 — Static Image List Monitoring covers watching images that aren't tied to a remote registry, including locally-built images. The plan includes a file-based watcher provider that creates synthetic container representations so all existing tag filtering, triggers, and notifications work with local images too.
• Phase 6.3 — Image Prune from UI adds an Images manager page with inventory, which would provide the UI surface for browsing all local images.

We'll update this issue when work begins on v1.7.0.
