Description
Module: Source
Suggested parent class: BCIO_010108 (socio-demographic attribute of person source)
Proposed label: physical appearance attribute of person source
Definition: A socio-demographic attribute of person source that is a physical
characteristic of the person source's body or face as perceived by the intervention
participant.
Examples: height, facial symmetry, perceived attractiveness, body size.
Rationale: BCIO_010108 currently includes age, gender, ethnicity, religious group
membership, language proficiency, health status and psychological attributes — but not
physical appearance. Physical appearance attributes of person source systematically
influence participant trust and receptivity through automatic social heuristics
operating prior to conscious evaluation of intervention content (Todorov et al., 2005;
Willis & Todorov, 2006). This gap means that face-to-face intervention studies cannot
fully characterise their source using existing BCIO classes. The proposed class would
serve as a parent for more specific attributes (e.g. height, facial attractiveness).
