WLED/DDP Effect blocks brightness setting

When setting up the KaufBulb ( fw 1.913(y), ESPHOME 2023.8.3.) and setting the Bulb Effect to use WLED/DDP the brightness stops working from WLED. Is there a workaround to be able to use these bulbs with WLED without losing the brightness/dimming functionality?

If you turn the light entity off in Home Assistant then it will use the brightness from WLED.

I've been trying different configs and the only way to get the brightness to work from WLED is to turn off the bulb in HA as well as on ESPHOME on the bulb, like in the screenshot below. The issue here is that the max brightness is much lower that with the Kauf Bulb On setting, or with it ON in HA. Not sure why in WLED I can't seem to get the bulb to the full brightness, despite both color and general brightness set to max.

I did try and set these up in WLED as DDP RGBW but that didn't make a difference, so wondering if perhaps when used in HA it's also using the White LED's and in WLED only the RGB ones?

Wow, this configuration to ensure that WLED controls the Kauf bulb's brightness is not intuitive at all. Perhaps there is some default config for Kauf bulb that assumes there's an HA? For what it's worth, the instructions for the Kauf bulb are wrong insofar as one does not need Home Assistant to use it, and control it if doing so via WLED and DDP. Updated documentation is sorely needed for use cases like mine, where the only instance is one WLED controller.

I was trying to get the heartbeat effect for a Kauf bulb sunchronized with an LED strip, but the background color wasn't changing to off/black... it just stayed red without any discernable blink-and-fade effect.

Turning the Kauf bulb "off" in its settings doesn't suggest it will still receive DDP packets. I was about to return the bulbs thinking they couldn't be controlled the way I wanted (especially since the log suggested it could only receive the RGB instructions for color without any corresponding packet denoting brightness).
