SourceLink - how to verify if it works

Scope
Library author wants to add sourcelink support in a simple .NET Standard project.

Why do i request this?
Lots of people are confused about how to verify if their sourcelink changes actually work - This is catalysed by the nature of PDBs and how they work.

Is there a really quick/simple way to do this? For example, loading a DLL in Visual Studio and seeing if it is linked?

We have some code that doesn't run in a local context (requires Azure Service Fabric and a number of other dependencies) so it is difficult to debug far enough in before it crashes to see if our DLLs are able to find code on our source server.

Any quick way to test this - besides searching for the path in the binaries, which I've already done - would be helpful. Thanks!

Well the simplest way would be referencing the assembly you want to test by some plain console app and then use one of the exposed APIs in it. You dont need to do anything for that. Just new up some object with everything null or use a method... something .. some API - then debug the console app and set a breakpoint. When pressing F11 it should prompt the sourcelink behavior.

Make sure to move the repo on your machine to another location if the tested binaries were build there - otherwise the pdb would default to the files on disk and not the sourcelink provider.
