Cloud platforms, managed services, Kubernetes, SaaS, “it just works” tooling… all of it has made IT faster and easier in a lot of ways, sure..... But it’s also created an uncomfortable side effect: fewer people truly understand how the systems they manage actually work.

That’s not nostalgia talking. It becomes a real problem when:

• something breaks below the abstraction layer
• defaults fail
• vendors give you a black box and say “trust us bro”
• or you’re expected to troubleshoot behavior no one can explain anymore

I think most of us SysAdmins can say that we’re not anti-abstraction. We are worried about what happens when abstraction replaces understanding instead of building on top of it.

So let’s talk.
