Control : Section & Block Naming + Icon Selection

Icons

Section icons are automatically selected based on what text is used to name them. This is frustrating and reduces the usefulness of having icons at all, when every "Custom Section" name appears with the same icon. Please implement the ability to select from a list of icons (at a minimum) and/or include your own custom icon (ideally).

Section & Block Names

Having the ability to optionally offer a dynamic name field for sections and blocks within the theme customizer, would help merchants to recognize areas faster instead of just seeing "Custom Section" or "Group" listed over and over again, especially when nested blocks are implemented.

Adding the ability to customize these two meta-data elements for names and icons would go a very long way towards improving recognition of content at a glance.

Thank you for sharing the feedback. We also noted the poor user experience of all the icons and block/section names now being the same. It's on our list of things to address

This needs to be a built in feature like the custom-css setting let merchants apply a label to any section or block that they want , optionally able to choose an icon.
Developers can add the sidebar label to the settings as a placeholder.
I already have to do this in a lot of customizations where I have to replace the first text setting to add a new text setting that renders nothing and only serves to let us label things for organization.

This is especially egregious for custom-liquid sections or blocks or image sections that try to show a postage stamp instead of something categorically useful.

I agree, it's not ideal now but could lead to legibility issues when the theme-blocks/nesting goes live

Not be able to label within the settings sidebar itself is a legibility issue in the here and now.
See custom-liquid sections and blocks more than a few are used it turns into a click through mess guessing what's where.

Another issue I've encountered is with text areas within blocks. If a block, like Variant picker, contains something like a page selector, the block's name in the editor changes to the selected page's name once you make a selection. This makes it really hard to locate the Variant picker block among 10-15 other blocks, since you'll naturally be searching for it by its original name, not the name of the page.
