Pane blocks don't connect to thin prints

The print on the left is 4x4 pixels, and the print on the right is 2x2 pixels. (Both are 16 pixels high, but I haven't found height to affect the relevant properties of the print) The glass pane only connects to the left one. What matters is this zone of "contact" which should be at least four pixels wide from the center of the print. Because of this, silly things occur (courtesy of bagelhunk):
