Searches with leading whitespace do not return anything

What is the problem and why is it a problem

If searching the proposal table if the query has leading white space, e.g. " 2510100" will not return any results even though it is a valid proposal rb number.

Steps to reproduce (if it's a bug).

I have bene able to recreate the whitespace bug, and it is still present.

I have been investigating how to find the source of the search function on the proposal service

I have been advised, to go and look at the frontend for where the button that handles sets the trigger, look for the api request it sends for the proposal lookup using the proposal Id. This is the next step, and then can pinpoint why the bug is occurring.

I think I have a lead on why the bug is being cause, It looks like from viewing the network on the prod site as a user officer that graphql is erroring when receiving the request payload from the backend. This leads me to think that we just pass the string in the search bar in the proposal portal and when it has a white space it doesn't recognise it.
