Using LDAP to authenticate

I am a bit confused on how I might go about authenticating to nickserv with LDAP. I have a test network with LDAP set up but there is absolutely no documentation discussing how to authenticate with LDAP that I can find. Is there documentation or a command I'm missing (/ns id doesn't work)?
