For the lathe you already have the hardware. Just position on the cross slide |

In addition to being an ELS type product, what about enabling control over the cross slide.
So a stepper motor on the cross slide.
Now for doing tapers/radii etc the requirements are set in the controller.
The stepper motor control is based on ACTUAL position (no worries about backlash, lost steps etc)
The either or both the saddle and top slide can be moved and the cross slide will move in harmony with them.
Now this may well be morphing into a completely different style of product?
But the advantage is that it becomes a great addition to a manual machine.
The stepper motor could be attached to the rear of the cross slide (?) depends on the equipment.
Now depending on programmability you can easily cut tapers radii etc.
Going further on a milling machine you can then allow standard mills to machine items that would otherwise require a mill with a table that can be swiveled. So gears with a pressure angle etc. A low use case but perhaps a differentiator
