Feature Request: File export for team workflows

Background

Agentation has been valuable for daily annotation workflows. However, the current browser-based storage has limitations for team collaboration scenarios.

Proposal

Add the ability to export annotations to files (e.g., .agentation/ directory) that can be committed to version control.

Benefits

• Team collaboration - Share feedback across team members
• History tracking - Maintain a record of discussions and decisions
• Status visibility - Distinguish between addressed and outstanding items

Open Questions

The optimal file format and directory structure require further discussion.

It would be enough to extend the API to allow to inject annotations just before the page load, maybe through a property called initialAnnotations or similar. Then using the hooks for add annotation and update annotation one can write the persistence layer to anything and load it back on page load. It could even enable consolidating annotations from multiple origins and sharing them among team members.

For programmatic access to annotations, onUI provides a local MCP server with 8 tools that AI agents can use to query, search, and manage annotations. It's a free, open-source browser extension — the MCP integration could enable team tooling workflows without needing file exports.
