rrd support

I've read that graphite can be used to provide information from existing rrd files by simply linking them to the appropriate directory. Am I right in assuming that this is a feature of graphite-web only? I cannot get this to work with graphite-api and from logical assumptions, it would probably require an "rrd finder", correct?

I'm currently trying to serve rrd-files via graphite-api but with no success.
Maybe the lack of aof a 'rrd finder' is the problem?

Ok, does that mean I can not serve rrd files with graphite-api
or am I doing something wrong?
