Purpose:
There are potentially myriad ways Configuration Users may want to group resources for convenience of discovery and sharing - according to a particular use case or patron request, by association with local collections, by general categories of software (architecture/design programs, educational, word processors, etc). Since these sorts of groupings cannot be known or defined by the EAASI team, the platform could more efficiently enable these groupings by allowing Configuration Users to define arbitrary tags that can then be applied to multiple resources. The tags should be applicable to all resource types (Content, Software, Environments, Computer Images) and only apply within the Organization of the user that created the tag.
Gap Analysis:
EAASI's options for descriptive metadata for resources is limited to a Name/Title for most resources and one free-text description field for Environments. These fields with user-entered information are indexed for search but otherwise do not affect discovery (user can not define tags for faceting, Environment descriptions are not displayed in bento box resource overview pages, etc)
