abstract away the proof of work a bit in the interface

don't actually have the buyer manually compute the PoW in a separate tab, but when the buyer clicks "Reserve", have it go into a mode that says "Calculating proof of work, go get a coffee (or some delicious green tea) and come back in a few minutes" while it calculates the PoW and then submit it automatically
