Validation Surface Opening

Hello,
I am still working through the examples in the CFAST Validation Guide.
I've encountered an issue with the "surface_opening_fraction_1.in" example. The simulation runs without any apparent errors, but I am unable to open the Smokeview file. I have already tried increasing the simulation time from 1 second to 100 seconds, but this did not resolve the problem.

My second question concerns Figure 3.21 in the guide. I'm finding it unclear why there is a difference between the "Expected" results and the results from "CFAST" in the graph. Shouldn't this values match like in the previous examples?

I verified that Smokeview opens and closes automatically. I am not sure what this case is supposed to verify but given the &DIAG namelist is in the file I wouldn't worry about running it. The surface_opening_fraction_1.smv file is an empty file and that is probably why Smokeview doesn't run. I will ask around but it is probably a safe assumption that there isn't anything to see in this fire and CFAST is working correctly. Since there is no fire there isn't really anything to see. The Verification cases are just there to make sure we don't break one thing when we are fixing something else and it seems unlikely to be useful to understanding CFAST.

update your cfast repo and try running and viewing the case again. I commented the &DIAG namelist and changed output time to 100 s. If you don't have the cfast repo then change the first couple of lines to

&TIME SIMULATION = 100 PRINT = 1 SMOKEVIEW = 1 SPREADSHEET = 1 /
DIAG UPPER_LAYER_THICKNESS = 1 VERIFICATION_TIME_STEP = 0.5/

@preneke is this case used anywhere? Didn't think so since it was not working. If not, maybe it should be removed
