Unable to use the same variables for dev and build

Unable to get the variables to be accessible in both local development and build. It seems that it your code is working perfectly for build but not for local development and if i put VITE_ back on the front it works locally and not on the remote (obviously haha). has this plugin been tested with vite 6 or shall i try rollback a version and any ideas on where to start to troubleshoot this?

This is the culprit.

if (isViteEnv(name, vite_env_prefix)) {
  continue;
}

Why not replacing import.meta.env.VITE_ prefixed variables with window.env.VITE_ as well? Seems easier
