short_description: Long-term memory engine for AI agents with hybrid retrieval and knowledge graphs.
-
description:
HippocampAI is an open-source memory system inspired by the human hippocampus.
It enables AI agents to remember, recall, and learn from past interactions using
vector search, BM25 keyword retrieval, and real-time knowledge graphs. It supports long-term memory, procedural learning, memory triggers, feedback-based recall optimization,
and embedding migration without downtime. The goal is to make AI agents truly stateful, adaptive, and capable of continuous learning.
Questions
How to support:
You can support HippocampAI by:
- Starring the GitHub repository
- Contributing features, bug fixes, or documentation
- Sharing feedback and real-world use cases
- Building projects using HippocampAI
- Sponsoring development in the future
Every contribution helps make AI memory better.
A small brief about your project:
HippocampAI is designed to solve one of the biggest limitations in AI today: memory.
Most AI forgets everything after each conversation. HippocampAI gives AI agents persistent memory, allowing them to recall past interactions, learn patterns, and improve over time.
It combines vector databases, keyword retrieval, and knowledge graphs to provide accurate and meaningful recall.
The long-term vision is to become the memory layer for all intelligent systems.
One FOSS maintainer lesson for your younger self:
Ship early. Ship often.
Perfection doesn’t build communities — progress does.
Real feedback only comes from real users.
Why do you do it? Why do you bother maintaining a FOSS project?:
Because open source accelerates innovation.
Some of the best tools in the world exist because someone shared their work freely.
HippocampAI is my contribution to the future of AI.
If AI is going to become intelligent, it needs memory. And memory should be open.
If your repo had a theme song, what would it be?:
Hans Zimmer — Time
Which file in your project would you most like to set on fire?:
legacy memory migration scripts 😅
They exist because of growth, but they remind you how far you've come.
What's your open-source villain origin story?:
Watching AI forget everything after every conversation.
I realized intelligence without memory isn’t intelligence.
So I built one.
If you had to use one emoji to convey what it is like to be a FOSS maintainer, what would it be?:
