Reorganise the branch of fluorescent protein tags #8

Description

@gouttegd

Currently, the hierarchy under fluorescent protein tag is organised in two levels:

  • a first level groups protein tags based on the organisms they are derived from, e.g.
    • fluorescent proteins derived from Aequora
    • fluorescent proteins derived from Anthozoa
    • fluorescent proteins derived from Arabidopsis
  • then a second level groups protein tags based on their emission colour, e.g.
    • Blue fluorescent protein from Aequora
    • Cyan fluorescent protein from Aequora
    • Green fluorescent protein from Aequora
    • etc.

This is suboptimal as it does not exploit the fact that an ontology term can perfectly well have more than one parent class.

For example, EGFP, which is currently classified as a fluorescent protein from Aequora > Green fluorescent protein from Aequora, could (should) be classified instead as, simultaneously:

  • fluorescent protein from Aequora
  • green fluorescent protein.

That is, the level that groups fluorescent proteins based on their emission colour should not be “below” the level that groups them based on their organisms of origin.
