subpages don't work #3

Subpages don't work right now. For example, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MarkAHershberger/sandbox/target and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MarkAHershberger/sandbox both exist but, as the remote is set up right now, only one of those -- User:MarkAHershberger/sandbox/target -- will be in the check out.
The upstream version of this remote added ".mw" to page names. This would allow you to have "User:MarkAHershberger.mw" as well as sub pages like "User:MarkAHershberger/sandbox/target.mw" on the disk.
I removed the .mw because I didn't understand this bit.
Can we add it back? Should we just add back the translation to have .mw on the end of page names?
