Automatic clear up if release is botched

Investigate if it's possible to create a 'clear-up' workflow that runs if release fails.

Would need to revert PR, revert relevant commits on merged branch, bump tag version down.

Could we have an action triggered by revert PR that does latter two steps?

Another possibility - workflow creates short lived release branch where version number is bumped, release notes generated. If release botched, then cleanup is easier as commits will have only been pushed to release branch.
