Support adding current running server version to backup file name?

I was wondering if you'd consider adding an option where the backup could automatically include the minecraft version in the backup file name?

I could hardcode it in the file name in compose but I do have some servers where I don't usually pin a version so if the backup process could handle that it would be nice that way you can easily tell what version was running when the backup was created.

Interesting idea.

The only challenge is determining the server version since there's not consistently any one data file that indicates that. There might be multiple server jars, so that won't work either.

Good news is that by adding https://github.com/itzg/mc-monitor into the image then the running server could be queried for its version.

I thought maybe rcon could be used to query the minecraft console, it has a 'version' command that splits it all out and then it could be parsed. I didn't dig into the code though so I'm not 100% on how rcon is used.

Thanks, I didn't know about the version command. Weirdly though, the rcon response chews up newlines in some cases. So on a vanilla server it comes back as one line:
