Canvas Items in the Wrong Lessons #28

Issue: Chemistry Unit C.3 (Unit code = CR) is failing to load in Canvas. Up until now, that has typically meant there was an issue in one or more of the source docs. Once I've been able to fix the source docs, the units have typically then loaded. For this unit, this was true at first.

Context/What I have done:

  1. There was an error in one of the google-classroom-materials tables in the source docs: Instead of using [video:video_id] it had [link:video_id]. When I changed it to the appropriate tag, it started loading more of this unit.
  2. The unit then started failing to load on Lesson 12.
  3. I looked at all of the source docs for Lesson 12 and cannot find anything wrong with them for Lesson 12.
  4. The one potential issue is that there is an Exit Ticket, which is a Google Form. We built a tool to convert the Google Forms into quizzes in Canvas using QTI. So, I started looking at the Exit Ticket for that lesson.
  5. This Exit Ticket for Lesson 12 has both images in the questions and multiple choice, so I thought maybe that was the issue.
  6. So, I started looking for other Exit Tickets that had similar question types and located one in the same unit (for Lesson 4) that appears to have loaded in Canvas successfully, so the images and different question type didn't seem to be the issue with Lesson 12.
  7. However, when I located that Exit Ticket I noticed an even bigger problem with this unit: The content that is in Google Forms and being transformed into quizzes in Canvas is being placed in the wrong lessons. I have not checked whether this is happening in other units as well as this one, but it is for sure a problem with this unit. Here are the details regarding that...

Google Forms are used in Lessons 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 12. Sometimes those are Exit Tickets and sometimes they are something else: Lessons 1 and 2 they are Interviews. In Lesson 9, it is a Community Agreement Form. In Lessons 4, 5, 8, and 12 they are Exit Tickets.
Additionally, Lesson 1 has an Exit Ticket that is NOT a Google Form--it is a handout and loaded as an attachment.

What is then happening in Canvas with this forms to quizzes content when this unit is loaded is kind of crazy.

  • Lesson 1 in Canvas has 2 Exit Tickets. The first Exit Ticket is the attached handout (non-form) Exit Ticket. The second is the quiz created from the Google Form for Lesson 4. (See the first, second and third images below.)
  • Lesson 2 in Canvas has 1 Exit Ticket, but instead of it being the content for the Lesson 2 Google Form, which is a Home Learning Interview, it is the quiz created from the Google Form for Lesson 4.
  • Lesson 4 in Canvas has 1 Exit Ticket, which is the correct content from the Google Form for Lesson 4.
  • Lesson 5 in Canvas has 1 Exit Ticket, which is again, the wrong content--the quiz created from the Google Form for Lesson 4.
  • Lesson 8 in Canvas has 1 Exit Ticket, which is again, the wrong content--the quiz created from the Google Form for Lesson 4.
  • Lesson 9 in Canvas has the an assignment called "Community Agreements Reflection" but the content for that is the content from the Google Form for Lesson 2. (See the fourth and fifth images below.)
  • Lesson 12 in Canvas has no Exit Ticket--this is where the content stops being loaded in Canvas.

So something is messed up, but I cannot figure out what is happening. The client did mention that this unit is using "old Google Form links" so maybe there is something messed up with the links? I'm not sure how to figure this out. I'm also hopeful that this is specific to this unit and not a larger problem across units!

This is the content for Lesson 4, but it is being repeated for Lesson 1, Lesson 2, Lesson 5, and Lesson 8

The Exit Ticket worth 7 points for Lesson 1 in Canvas, which is actually the Lesson 4 content

This is the correct content for Lesson 9's Community Agreements Reflection Form:

But this is what is showing up in Canvas for Lesson 9, which is actually the content that is supposed to show up for Lesson 2:
