You can use standard events from ssh2.

ssh.on('ready', ...);

I'd recommend listening for errors then

ssh.on('error', function(err) {
    console.log('Oops, something went wrong.');
    console.log(err);
    ssh.end();
});

It's possible your connection info isn't correct
