node-gradle/gradle-node-plugin is one of the more active forks of srs/gradle-node-plugin and up until version 3 we were still using groovy so there's a bunch of changes you might want to consider for your fork, here's our CHANGELOG.md for the Groovy versions

I guess many of these have already made their way here, but figured I might as well mention them :-)

You might want to have a look at our tests as well, we're still using groovy + spock in the latest version and Benoit has contributed great test coverage!
