Applications that need patching

I haven't started seriously digging into PicoMite/WebMite for this yet. Based on my initial look yesterday, it didn't seem like it was just an "easy" swapping the API call with the new one. I want to make sure I know what's going on with all that code anyway, partly so I don't break PicoMite but also because I don't want to risk doing anything bad with flash.

I'm assuming this will only really help for the Pico2(W), since the RP2350 sounds like it's properly walled off and just needs the code to access things properly. Since the RP2040 doesn't have those protections, these API changes probably won't be enough to get it working on the Pico, right? It would probably need to actively avoid the area where the loader resides? (Personally, I'm more interested in getting it working on the Pico2 anyway.)

How about ZeptoForth? I couldn't get it to work. It gives an error when trying to load the firmware.

PicoMite on Pico1 isn't too bad, since it doesn't need API changes, just it's idea of the end of flash adjusted.

I've not tried zeptoforth yet, but I'll add it to the list. That one will be fun, been a while since I've had to write in forth.

Yikes, zeptoforth is going to be painful on Pico 2 as well, because for ungodly reasons it's completely reimplemented all the flash operations from scratch in hand-written assembly, and it's completely unaware of the address space mapping.

Ouch. Yes, Pico 2w here. Well, at least Lisp works for now, so programming on Picocalc using uf2loader is not dead in the water.

FUZIX 1.1 seem to work on pico 2w, unless I'm doing "ls /bin". Then it crashes, but maybe it's something in my flash filesystem?

PicoMite is not loading on Pico 2w.

@pelrun: For PicoMite (on Pico2) I replaced the flash_range* calls with what I think are the appropriate rom_flash_op calls. This doesn't boot in either the loader or standalone, though it compiles without error. I suspect I need to adjust the offset in the second parameter of all the calls to get it working with the loader, though I'm not totally clear on how to use bl_app_partition_get_info() to do that. I was expecting it to at least work standalone, but I'm also probably missing something else, whether it's some kind of initialization or setup before the rom_flash_op calls or some other thing PicoMite is doing with flash that it shouldn't be.

I'm not sure whether it's more expedient for you to point me in the right direction (if I'm close) or to make the changes yourself. But I'm willing to help if I can. A diff with my WIP changes is below.

While it would be nice to get PicoMite running under the loader for those who choose to use PicoMite, I've been experimenting more with machikania/phyllosoma and it's so much faster and more capable than PicoMite that it seems the best BASIC option for the PicoCalc, minus some usability issues. (And it already works in the loader.) I look forward to eventually getting back to using the loader, since the device feels kind of crippled veing stuck in PicoMite.

Turns out there's a subtle issue with rom_flash_op if your app includes pico_multicore but doesn't start the second core, and basically makes all rom_flash_op calls fail with a permissions error. Had to launch a trivial thread with an infinite loop immediately on startup just to give it something to halt.

When I use uf2loader with uLisp it behaves the same way that micrypython does for me on my Pico2w; screen flashing.

For me, screen flashing (restart loop) in micropython happened even after I stopped using multi boot. I had to downgrade keyboard firmware from 1.4 to 1.2.
Does anybody have the same issue?

I wonder if that's my issue. I just upgraded to 1.4.

I built https://github.com/pelrun/PicoMiteAllVersions and when I flash it via u2floader. While it works it does have a bug where if you try to run files you get the following:

Confirming this issue, I have the same problem. Running ls /bin results in:
