How to update defines?

I want to use defines for some if conditions instead of using uniforms for that.

Here's what i am doing now to update it

patternReplacerEffect.defines.set('TYPE', value.toString());
this.composer.removePass(patternReplacerPass);
this.composer.addPass(patternReplacerPass);

but i think this is a wrong, there should be something like needsUpdate for 3js materials.

Hi,

in v6 you need to call setChanged() after changing defines. In v7 this is no longer necessary because changes to defines automatically trigger material updates.
