This template is more for users/scientists who want to keep all source code/environment/data in the one place in a consistent/predictable structure.
Our projects already have very similar structure.
It shouldn't be too hard to support cookie-cutter template.
With this consistent structure, it'll be easy to place relevant metadata/notebooks for deployment systems as well.
It's more relevant to science (not development) so I'm throwing this idea in the ess_template.
