Rotary encoder

I'm wondering if these rotary encoders should work...

Because I bought some of them, and when I rotate it, it does not switch the frequency reliably. So additionally I bought another type of encoder:

and this encoder has the same exact issue. What could I be doing wrong?

The encoder does change the frequency, but it seems like it takes a random amount of detents.

My encoders work kind-of OK, they do skip some positions if rotated too quickly. I think they look like the ones in the amazon link. I have also noticed that using a knob actually helps.
This is a firmware issue that I will try to fix at some point.

Firmware rev 0.8b should address the rotary encoder issue. Please give it a try when you get the chance.

Hi All :) I have new release.
Sorry for reopening this old bug - rotary does not work as expected.
This feature is just not stable, not reliable, sometimes does not work at all.
It display always correct numbers related to rotary position. But STPCLK freq is busted - tested, shorted manually to GDN, CPU stops!
You could think - bad components/ bad soldering.
Why 1btn & preset works like a charm!?

1. First of all, what kind of system / chipset are you working on?

2. Are you using firmware 0.8d ?

3. It display always correct numbers related to rotary position. But STPCLK freq is busted - tested, shorted manually to GDN, CPU stops!

So the display does change with the rotary encoder but the frequency is not changing? Is this with firmware 0.8d ?

Firmware 0.8d does not have DBG_PRINT enabled. Which firmware version are you using?

Firmware 0.8d does not have DBG_PRINT enabled. Which firmware version are you using?

   In general, at start all works fine... after 1h display works fine but PC do not respond to any changes...

Thank you for your reply. A couple more questions:

• What is the model of your PC motherboard that you are connecting the Throttle Blaster to?

• So you connected a capacitor in parallel with the R2 resistor. I wonder how this fixes the issue. Some people have reported that some motherboards need lower R2 values, like less than 50 Ohms. So soldering two 100 Ohm resistors in parallel could fix the issue you are having.

my motherboard is Fujitsu D1115-G12 GS2 (Slot1/440bx)

Today ThrottleBlaster will not cooperate at all:

• system hangs at start (with TB)
• system hangs if Tb enabled
• no response from rotor - always 200

Sorry to hear that you are still having issues.

Have you tried the 1 or 2 button modes? If these work then it might be that your rotary encoder is faulty? If the 1 or 2 button mode don't work either then you might have a faulty pico.

If the system hangs, then the STPCLK pin is always pulled low, which can happen if either the STPCLK Q1 2N7000 transistor is faulty or if the pico is somehow generating a faulty output.

i want to try other transistors like AO3400 or BS170. Have you try those?
Is it possible any of thes 2 will be more forgiving? My STPCLK cable is 40cm long, may collect charge...
