Which dongle do you recommend for android Auto

Instructions say you need a dongle. The Carlinkit folks sell many of these.

Is the dongle to plug into the Pi and trick your phone into thinking it's connecting to a Carplay enabled car entertainment system? Does that mean it's effectively streaming/re-streaming twice? Once from phone to Carplay, then from Pi to browser?
