I cloned the code on master branch, tweaked code of locate to specify the path, cargo +nightly run and manually set the env RLM_LICENSE. It says successfully patched but the resolve.exe won't start anymore. It shows in task manager for a little while and then exits.

It seems the patch is broken and needs an update. I tried to do it myself and PR it but it is kind of hard without knowing what the patch regions are supposed to look like.
I wonder if, for the future, we could get some documentation on the regions around the patches or their purpose and process to find their addresses in IDA - that would probably make updating so much easier (and give us the chance to help maintaining this).
Using patches like this one is the best way to get Linux compatibility for some codecs and features.

I am currently very busy irl and do not have the time to update the patcher for the newest version. I advise using the known working versions for the time being.

may I know what the latest version are supported?

it only worked for me with 20.0.1,
tried 20.1.1 and 20.2.3 and the latest one and all of them crashed.

Does this work for 20.1 yet? Or just 20.0.1? Knowing this will save me lots of burned data on my metered network.

No, it does not. I tried it a few moments ago with the script and it couldn't get it done. It said success, but DaVinci didn't launch after that.
