Problems with Wi-Fi Mesh networks #5296

What happened?

Hi! I'm having a strange, persistent problem. The controller refuses to connect to the correct mesh network point. Instead, it connects to the farthest point on the network.
The problem is present in both Wled 15.1 - 15.2 versions and Wled 16 (I have now checked it on the build from 01/14/2026).
I have DIY controllers based on the ESP32 S3 4MB (4 pcs). The problem is the same on all of them: they refuse to connect to the required access point, even though the BSSID address is specified in the settings.
I also tried disabling connections to "incorrect" Wi-Fi hotspots in the router settings. But in this case, the WLED controller drops out of the network and can't connect, even after a hard reset (power cycle).

To Reproduce Bug

Enter the BSSID of the desired Wi-Fi access point in the settings. The controller will still randomly connect to any available mesh network point.

Expected Behavior

Connecting to an access point with the BSSID specified in the settings

Install Method

Binary from WLED.me

What version of WLED?

WLED 15.1, 15.2, 16.0

Which microcontroller/board are you seeing the problem on?

ESP32-S3
