Versioning development and release builds

Development/Production build and version numbers:
1) Format and example.
2) Describe how to build them (manual/automatic)?
3) Describe them in relation to git-flow context.

Requirements:
- It may be the case for some systems not to accept characters in version (TPA)
- Easy mapping from version to commit
- build version must always be incrementing
