The course will run from 9:15-16:45, however the room will be available from 9:00-17:00 on the day, in case any further assistance is needed before or after the event.

Lunch will not be provided. Please plan to bring or buy your own on the day (there is a cafe available on site).

Outline of the course

Each session will have a combination of presentations and practical exercises. Please note that exact timings may vary on the day.

  • 9:00-9:15 - Room open for set-up and troubleshooting installations.

  • 9:15-12:00 – Introduction to Git & GitHub

  • 10:45-11:00 - Break

    • Basic Git workflow
    • Use of GitHub
  • 12:00-13:00 - Lunch

  • 13:00-14:45 - Further ways to manage your own projects

    • When mistakes happen.
    • Creating branches
  • 14:45-15:00 - Break

  • 15:00-16:00 - How to collaborate?

    • Access permissions
    • Benefits of Organisations
    • How to clone or fork repositories?
    • Sharing in practice.
  • 16:00-16:45 - Going forward with Git

    • Use with RStudio (or other GUI's)
    • Personal practice/ Q&A
    • Instructors will be available after the course to answer any questions.
