this, i hope, is the method we are going to use for the hydrofuge. im using a time/alarm library as i think that would be simpler than using a switch case and counting ms or using cascading delays

This is a minor example to allow easier "event" handling in a loop, so each event can be handled only once.
Further, a note is added about an inner loop that will unfortunately lock up the chip.
