This stops you from getting notifications for events that happened after you opened the window, but before you enabled notifications, if you have a window open that isn't normally subscribed to oplogs--for example, a chat window. It doesn't stop you from getting notifications that happened while you were disconnected if you were subscribed before you were disconnected.
