For the default collection, 250 is the maximum. Anything else is 246.

Ah yes. Still, I feel like that information should be added parenthetically, or as a footnote, as we'd generally want people not to be using 247-250 bytes in the default collectiont, in case they change their schema and move the document to a named collection.

Would putting it as a footnote work for you?
