ERICA is a rescue catalog that preserves over 500,000 Open Access publications originally hosted by the US Department of Education in the ERIC research repository. Following the defunding of ERIC on April 23, 2025, this project aims to prevent the loss of valuable educational research resources.
The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a long-standing digital library of education research and information sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education. With its defunding, there is an imminent risk of losing access to hundreds of thousands of valuable educational research documents.
The PDFs in this catalog were rescued using the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine by crizzo, a volunteer for the Data Rescue Project. This preservation effort ensures continued access to important educational research despite the shutdown of the original repository.
When you click on a publication ID link in the catalog, you will be redirected to the archived PDF in the Wayback Machine. The catalog provides a user-friendly interface to browse and search through the preserved publications.
You can easily host your own copy of ERICA by cloning this repository, since it is just a static website. The repo includes:
- Complete source code for the static catalog interface
- Metadata for all 500,000+ publications
- Links to the archived PDFs in the Wayback Machine
