Writing conversion programs

eric-anderson edited this page Apr 20, 2012 · 2 revisions

Writing a conversion program involves writing code that parses the existing (raw) format, and then writes out a dataseries file. We have found that in most cases it is beneficial to write two converters, one from the raw format to the dataseries one, and one from dataseries to the raw format. The bi-directional conversion allows you to verify whether the conversion is perfect.

Several example programs are available for writing one of these converters. They include bacct2ds, csv2ds, (ellardnfs2ds,ds2ellardnfs), (wcweb2ds, ds2wcweb), iphost2ds, nettrace2ds, pssimple2ds.

TODO: extract out the modules from src/server so people could use TeeModule to write converters.
