so PARENTMODEL_id isn't assumed as the foreignKey. Previously, linking a hasOne or hasMany (a hasOne in my case) didn't work unless the associated table's foreign key was named PARENTMODEL_id, thus totally ignoring 'foreignKey' as specified in the parent model's file. How could this have been missed?!?!! =P
