These commits remove the auto-generated files from autotools from the git repository. It also adds them to the .gitignore file.
This makes it easier to work with the project since 'git diff' will not be disturbed by changes in the generated files and 'git status' will not tell us about modifications in the generated files.
An autogen.sh script is added to generate the files needed to configure and build make.
