For LifeHack 2022, our team chose the theme of Safety, with a focus on preventing drowsy driving. The result: Drive Woke, a mobile app designed to keep drivers alert on the road through real-time voice interaction.
- Flutter
- Dart
- Cloud Firestore
The app provides an interactive experience to keep drivers awake using a combination of:
- Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech: At the start of a trip, the app prompts the driver with random words at fixed intervals. The driver must respond correctly within the time limit.
- Alarm Triggering: If no response is detected, an alarm sounds until the driver responds with a configurable safeword.
- Trip Tracking: The app records trip duration and alarm triggers in a trip history log, allowing users to track and reflect on their alertness.
- Adjustable Settings: Users can modify prompt intervals and safewords via a settings page.
| Challenges | Learning Points |
|---|---|
| Managing multiple plugin integrations and state conflicts. | Importance of clear state management and structured app architecture. |
| Rapid development within a 48-hour window. | Value of prototyping before coding through low-fidelity mockups. |
