FIRST SETUP
After installation, OpenCloudTouch is ready. Now it's time to connect your SoundTouch speakers.
Your SoundTouch speakers are still trying to talk to the (discontinued) Bose Cloud. The manual setup reconfigures them to communicate with your local OpenCloudTouch server instead.
This requires a one-time process:
- A USB stick is prepared (enables SSH on the speaker)
- The speaker is configured via SSH
- OCT takes over the cloud function locally
The process involves a few manual steps, but it only needs to be done once per device.
Open in your browser:
http://opencloudtouch.local:7777
On first launch, you'll see the Welcome screen with three options:
- 🔍 Search for devices — Scans your network for SoundTouch devices
- ✏️ Manual setup — Configure a speaker for OpenCloudTouch via SSH
- ✏️ Manual IP entry — For devices that can’t be found automatically
💡 A guided setup wizard is planned for a future release.
The setup process needs a USB stick to enable SSH on your SoundTouch speaker.
- A USB stick (at least 1 GB)
- The USB stick will be formatted — back up any data first!
- Click “Set up device manually”
- Follow the USB preparation instructions (Step 1)
- Format the USB stick as FAT32
- The Wizard creates the necessary configuration file — download it and copy it to the USB stick
💡 Tip: The USB stick is only needed once per device. After setup, you can use it for other purposes.
- Unplug — Turn off your SoundTouch device (disconnect power)
- Insert USB stick — Plug the prepared USB stick into the USB port on the speaker
- Plug back in — Turn the device back on
- Wait — The speaker boots and reads the USB stick. This takes about 30-60 seconds
The Wizard automatically detects when the speaker is ready (SSH available).
The manual setup covers these steps:
| Step | What Happens | Your Action |
|---|---|---|
| USB | Prepare USB stick | Copy file to stick |
| SSH | SSH connection to speaker | Start speaker with USB stick |
| Backup | Backup of original configuration | Recommended! Click "Create backup" |
| Connection | Speaker redirected to OCT | Follow on-screen instructions |
| DNS | Bose domains redirected | Follow on-screen instructions |
| Verification | Configuration tested | Verify speaker connects to OCT |
| Restart | Speaker rebooted | Wait for reboot to complete |
| Done! | Summary | 🎉 |
⚠️ Important: Make sure to create a backup (Step 3)! If something goes wrong, you can restore the original configuration.
After finishing the setup, your device is configured for OCT. Go back to the home screen and click:
🔍 Search for devices now
OCT scans your network and finds your SoundTouch speakers. Devices appear one by one on screen.
- Check that OCT and the speaker are on the same network
- Check that the speaker is powered on (LED is lit)
- Try manual IP entry under Settings

Your SoundTouch speaker is now connected to OpenCloudTouch. You can now:
- 📻 Search for radio stations and assign presets
- 🔘 Play presets 1-6 at the touch of a button on the speaker
- 🔊 Control volume through the web UI
Repeat the manual setup for each additional SoundTouch device. You can manage multiple speakers with a single OCT installation.
